Jessica McDiarmid is an experienced journalist who has covered human rights, racial conflicts and social justice around the world; her work has been published by the Toronto Star, the Associated Press, CBC, Canadian Business and the Harvard Review, among others.
McDiarmid grew up on the Highway of Tears during the height of the disappearances in the 1990s. She remembers the faces of these girls and women looking out from the missing posters that plastered mailboxes and gas station windows and grocery store bulletin boards. She remembers that they sometimes came down, and it was never because a girl got home alive.
