Cohen MattMatt Cohen, who died in December 1999, is the best-selling and widely translated author of thirteen novels, as well as poetry, collections of short stories, books for children and works of translation from French to English. His last novel, Elizabeth and After, won the 1999 Governor General’s Award, and his previous novel, Last Seen, was a finalist for both the Governor General’s Award and the Trillium Award, and was chosen by Margaret Atwood as Best Book of 1996 (Maclean’s). In 1998 Matt Cohen received the Toronto Arts Award for Writing. His novel Emotional Arithmetic is now a feature film, starring Susan Sarandon, Roy Dupuis, Max von Sydow, and Christopher Plummer.
