James Grainger was born and raised in Toronto. He is the author of Harmless, a national bestseller, The Long Slide, which won the ReLit Award for Short Fiction, and the co-author, with Sheldon Kennedy, of the bestselling memoir, Why I Didn’t Say Anything: The Sheldon Kennedy Story. James is a former review editor at Quill & Quire magazine, where he currently serves as a books columnist, and his reviews and articles appear in the Toronto Star, The Globe & Mail, Sharp, Toro, Elle Canada and Rue Morgue. He has also been a books commentator on CBC and TVO, and acts as a host and moderator for the International Readings at Harbourfront series and the IFoA.
